Attica is surrounded by sea, therefore there are hundreds of choices of beaches to choose from, which are free of charge. The best things in life are free right?
We have made a list of beautiful free beaches located in the Athenian Riviera.
Notos-Voula

Located in the beautiful residential neighborhood of Voula, this set of beaches is something locals brag about. Notos is the name of the only cafeteria-restaurant in the area, which was built 25 years ago, when the area was getting popular and growing. This beachside area is known as Notos because of this. Arriving at the area there is a long pedestrian pavement where locals go for jogging, to walk the dogs, admire romantic sunsets or take their children to play in the playground.
Along this path there are 20 steps of concrete stairs which lead to the sandy beaches. All of them are the same safe, clean and definitely beautiful. There is a car park near the beaches and it is accessible by tram (last stop of TRAM, Asklipiio Voulas) and bus.
Kavouri beach (Mikro-Megalo)

Kavouri is a residential neighborhood located in the municipality of Vouliagmeni. It is a beautiful coastal region which provides easy and free access to the beach. It consists of Mikro and Megalo Kavouri, which stands for little and big Kavouri accordingly. Mikro Kavouri has a few fish taverns and cafeterias blessed with exceptional views of the Athenian Riviera. The natural piers made of stones are perfect to place your towel and sunbathe, after diving in the crystal clear waters. While in Mikro Kavouri you can find your own private spot, Megalo Kavouri is a large sandy coast with shallow waters, well crowded during the hot summer days.

It is ideal for families or for those who enjoy playing beach volley or tennis. Facilities are quite limited in order to preserve public access, however there is a canteen serving a selection of coffees and ice creams as well as delicious fresh seafood. Clean toilets are available for customers use.
Paralia Saronida
Saronida’s beach is located opposite of the town’s center. It is a popular destination for families with children as the sandy beach and shallow clean waters makes it a safe beach. Also its proximity to food outlets and supermarkets is another advantage that this beach holds.
Anavysos beach
Surrounded by tall pine trees and greenery, this beach creates a peaceful landscape far from the disturbing noises of the city. It is very popular among younger crowds because of the beach bar in place, but also for families who seek safety and cleanliness. It is also one of the best windsurfing destinations in Athens for those who love watching crashing waves.
Thimari Beach
This small beach located a few kilometers after Palaia Fokea, is covered with small pebbles and bathed by deep blue waters. Because of its beautiful scenery this beach does get quite packed during summer days, so it is important to arrive before midday to secure a good spot for yourself. Access is through the concrete steep stairs which are found in the area where you can park your car.
Cape Sounio
Cape Sounio is a perfect beach day getaway option. You can combine a beach day with a visit to an important archeological site, the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio. It is easy to access this beach as there are signs leading to it. The beach is sandy and the waters are transparent and clean. A little fish tavern in the beginning of the beach serves delicious seafood appetizers, Greek salads, fresh fish and cold beer, making it a great option to end the day.
Althea Beach
Althea beach located right after the Church of Agia Marina, is positioned in a natural cove surrounded by greenery. The turquoise waters resemble a Greek island located in the Aegean Sea. This partially sand and pebbles beach is a perfect unorganized beach, as you can lie anywhere you want. Don’t forget to bring an umbrella to avoid the burning of the scorching Greek summer sun.
